Safeguarding children

Hinchingbrooke Health Care NHS Trust is committed to safeguarding, and promoting the welfare of children.

Deirdre Fowler our Director of Nursing, Midwifery and Quality along with her colleagues in the Senior management team, has board-level responsibility for safeguarding children. Our Safeguarding team, consisting of a named Doctor, Nurse and Midwife, act on Deirdre’s behalf to ensure Board assurance and that all measures are in place to safeguard children who access our services.

Statutory requirements

As an organisation we meet statutory requirements in relation to criminal records bureau legislation for all new staff, thus adhering to NHS Employer guidance.

A policy and procedure related to safeguarding children, which is regularly reviewed and updated, gives our staff the necessary guidance on their roles and responsibilities and the expectation that the Trust has on them to comply.

Level 1 Safeguarding Children training is part of our Trust’s induction programme for all staff, including volunteers, and there is provision of other training as required by national and local guidance.

Responsibilities for the named professionals are included in their job descriptions.

Quarterly reports are presented to the clinical governance and risk management committee and an annual report, including any audit results, is presented to the Board.
