Only two other hospitals across the country have met the high standards needed to secure the Bronze Catering Mark, making Hinchingbrooke one of the best Trusts for food quality in England.
Since Circle took over the management of the hospital in February 2012, the food menus have been overhauled:
- All meals are freshly prepared at the hospital
- Frozen vegetables have been replaced with fresh, locally sourced vegetables
- All meat is sourced from local farms
- Patient satisfaction jumped to 92 per cent just two months after the new menus were introduced
Circle’s Michelin-trained Head Chef, Andreas Wingert, who helped introduce the changes said:
”The catering team here at Hinchingbrooke are constantly working to make the quality of the food better than ever.
”All our patients deserve a good meal when they come to hospital. That’s why everything we cook is freshly made and all meat is sourced from local farms.
”The changes we’ve introduced have made a massive difference to patients and it’s fantastic news this has been recognised.”
Mike Bond, the Soil Association’s Catering Mark Manager said, “We were impressed by the quality of the food at Hinchingbrooke Hospital. Staff take huge care to ensure everything is freshly prepared, free from undesirable additives and better for animal welfare. Nearly a million Catering Mark meals a day are served to people across the UK – Hinchingbrooke have demonstrated that it’s possible to achieve these high standards in a hospital environment.”
