Hinchingbrooke Hospital’s Eye Unit provides eye care to the residents of Huntingdon and the surrounding areas. The unit is modern, extremely well equipped and caters for all aspects of eye health and disease. Our consultants also run eye clinics in Doddington County Hospital and The Princess of Wales Hospital, Ely. Many of our eye consultants also work in Addenbrooke’s Hospital and in the Moorfields Eye Unit at Bedford Hospital.
Most eye surgery is done as day case without requiring an overnight hospital stay. All eye conditions are treated in the unit as well as general eye clinics, emergency eye clinics and clinics for cataract and cataract-related disorders.
Conditions we treat:
- Eye lid / orbital disease
- Tear duct disorders
- Paediatric eye disease
- Eye movement disorders and squints
- Contact lens problems
- Corneal and eye surface disease
- Retinal issues
- Botulinum toxin
- Low vision aids
Community and hospital care
Our staff in the eye unit work closely with specially trained community optometrists and orthoptists so that patients can be cared for outside of the hospital and closer to home wherever possible.
Where to find us
The eye unit can be found on the first floor of Hinchingbrooke Hospital’s Treatment Centre. The Ophthalmic Theatre and the day case Procedure Unit are adjacent to the eye clinic area. Children having eye surgery attend the newly opened Holly Children’s Unit and have their operation in the operating complex in the main hospital area.
Eye Clinic Liaison Officer
Within the Ophthalmology Department we have an Eye Clinic Liaison Officer, Vicky French, who is able to offer support and advice to patients newly diagnosed with sight loss, as well as those who return to the hospital for ongoing treatment. Vicky is available to meet with and speak over the telephone with patients and / or their relatives to try to provide some emotional and practical support for their next steps forward, including recommending local charities and agencies who could be of assistance.
Vicky works along side Huntingdonshire Society for the Blind and the Sensory Services Team at Cambridgeshire County Council to ensure that Hinchingbrooke Hospital offers a joined up and informed service to our patients.
Please feel free to contact Vicky direct if you have any queries or questions on 01480 416416 (extension 3190) or via email email@example.com.
