Plastic Surgery and Hand Surgery

Plastic Surgery and Hand Surgery at Hinchingbrooke

Hinchingbrooke Hospital provides a high quality plastic surgery and hand surgery service covering a wide spectrum of conditions and procedures.

What does the service cover?

The three main areas plastic surgeons deal with in the NHS are skin cancer, breast surgery and hand surgery. We have also recently introduced a new service for babies with tongue-ties which can often be released in clinic within a few days.

At Hinchingbrooke Hospital, our surgeons have sub-specialty training and the experience to confidently deal with these areas. Our plastic surgeons have broad expertise in reconstructing tissues and in managing difficult wounds or soft tissue conditions.

Our aim

At Hinchingbrooke, our aim is to provide a first-class, friendly service and offer our patients a positive experience from their hospital stay. We have introduced new services, such as a See & Treat clinics, so that the majority of patients with skin conditions can be seen and have their surgery done in one visit. We also aim to simplify surgery by offering more procedures under local anaesthetic as a day case. We are committed to minimising any waiting times as much as possible and we encourage our patients to leave feedback in order to improve our services further.

See and treat clinic – reducing anxiety, improving efficiency

Watch this short video featuring our consultant plastic surgeons Hagen Schumacher and Anthony Barabas talking about the see and treat clinic, which enables patients with conditions like skin lesions, or moles, to be examined and treated in the same appointment.

What our plastic surgery patients say…

In April 2014 on a GMC validated questionnaire of 38 patients, 100% stated that they had confidence about their surgeon’s ability to provide care and 100% would be happy to see the surgeon again. Our overall complication rate is below 5%. In the first half of 2014 no cancer patient was denied the chance to be seen in outpatients within 2 weeks and all patients could be offered surgery within the 31 day government target by our on-site plastic surgery service.

Private treatments available

In addition to plastic and reconstructive surgery, our plastic surgeons also offer a service to private patients looking for plastic or cosmetic procedures, via Mulberry Private Health Care.
