Specialist Palliative Care
Hinchingbrooke Hospital’s Specialist Palliative Care team consists of specialist Doctors, Nurses and an Occupational Therapist. Our staff have all had special training to enable them to help people with advanced or progressive illnesses such as cancer, motor neurone disease, multiple sclerosis, heart failure and many others.
Hinchingbrooke’s Palliative Care Team works closely with the Doctors and Nurses already looking after you, supporting and advising them on your care.
What is Palliative Care?
Palliative care is the active holistic care of patients with any progressive illness. Management of pain and other symptoms and provision of psychological, social and spiritual support is paramount. The goal of palliative care is achievement of the best quality of life for patients and their families at any time in their illness.
Your doctor or Specialist Nurse may refer you to the team at any stage of your illness. It may be that you have specialist needs such as pain and symptom control, or that you need emotional support with your diagnosis or support for your family.
You can also refer yourself although we will ask your doctor for more information about you.
