New Chief Executive Appointed at Hinchingbrooke

Hinchingbrooke Health Care NHS Trust has announced the appointment of its new Chief Executive, following the decision of Mark Millar to leave the Trust at the end of his secondment.

Gerry McSorley will be joining the Trust on Tuesday, 4th May on a one year fixed term contract to head up the Trust and lead it through the Hinchingbrooke Next Steps process, which will find a new partner to run the Trust on an operating franchise basis.

Gerry McSorley is currently Programme Director for Board development at the NHS National Leadership Council and Senior Leadership Fellow at the NHS Institute for Innovation and Improvement.

He has previously held Chief Executive positions at several large acute hospital trusts, such as Nottingham City Hospital NHS Trust, Leicester General Hospital NHS Trust and Derby City General Hospital NHS Trust.

Sue Smith, Hinchingbrooke Health Care NHS Trust Chairman, said: “I am delighted to be able to announce the appointment of Gerry McSorley as Chief Executive of Hinchingbrooke.

“Gerry has a vast amount of NHS leadership and Hospital experience and I am confident that this experience will help him lead the Trust through the Hinchingbrooke Next Steps process and enable us to continue to provide high quality services for our patients.

“I would like to use this opportunity to extend my thanks to Mark Millar for the outstanding job he has done at Hinchingbrooke over the past three years, enabling the Trust to look towards a promising future.”

1. Gerry is 53 and lives in Leicestershire.  He is highly qualified in management and administration, holding a Doctorate in Business Administration. He is a Visiting Professor in Healthcare Management and Leadership at the University of Lincoln, has presented papers internationally on leadership and innovation in health care and is a past President of the Institute of Healthcare Management

2. We will be setting up media interviews with Gerry during his first week.

3. Mark Millar will remain in post until 30th April to ensure a smooth transition for the Trust.
