Welcome to the Audiology Department at Hinchingbrooke Hospital

The Audiology Department is committed to providing high quality care to patients of all ages who suffer from a hearing loss, tinnitus or vestibular problems.

We carry out a number of tests to enable us to determine the nature and extent of a hearing loss or balance disorder, helping us to identify any conditions that is related to the ear.

As well as this, we offer a hearing aid service which begins with an initial hearing assessment, and allows us to fit up to date new digital hearing aids to any hearing impaired individual. We provide long term management and rehabilitation to all our patients and provide counselling where necessary.

Non Existing Hearing Aid Users

If you have not got a hearing aid and would like to be assessed for one, you will need to visit your General Practitioner who can refer you by one of two paths:

  1. Direct Referral to Audiology - You will be referred straight to audiology if you meet a specific criteria.
  2. Direct Referral to ENT (Ears Nose and Throat Department) - If you do not meet a specific criteria, you will be referred to the ENT Department before coming to the audiology department for a medical assessment.

Existing Hearing Aid Users

If you are an existing patient and have concerns about your hearing or your hearing aid, or require a repair or re-tube appointment, please contact us on 01480 847465.

Hearing aid repairs can be done at:

  • Hinchingbrooke Hospital,
  • St Ives Community Clinic,
  • Ramsey Health Centre,

  • The Oak Tree Centre in Huntingdon.

Hearing aids need servicing and the tubes need changing, about every 6 months. Please note - You cannot be seen without making an appointment. You can do this via phone, email, letter or by person.

Please do your best to look after your hearing aid and keep the ear mould clean. There is a charge of £50 per hearing aid if lost through neglect.

When obtaining batteries, an appointment does not need to be made. However you will need to bring your brown battery book between 9am – 1pm, and 2pm - 4pm.
