Emergency Care Centre

The Emergency Care Centre incorporates the Emergency Department, the Medical Assessment Unit and hosts the GP Out of Hours service provided by Urgent Care Cambridgeshire.

The Emergency Care Centre General Manager is David Monk and the Lead Nurse is Clare Carpenter, both are pleased to hear from and meet patients and their relatives. Both can be contacted via hospital switchboard.

Information for Relatives and Visitors

Patients in the Medical Assessment Unit (MAU) can be visited at all times, but we ask that this is restricted to two per visitor at any one time. Visiting can be stopped at the discretion of the nurse in charge, for example due to infection control measures.

In Emergency Department we again ask that visitors are restricted to two per patient, due to space constraints. Visitors may also be asked to wait in the waiting area while investigations are being carried out on the patient.

Within the Emergency Department we will provide patients, should they be subject to an extended waiting time, with hot drinks and snacks such as sandwiches. In the Medical Assessment Unit, patients will be provided with hot meals. The waiting area has a range of vending machines, providing snacks and hot and cold drinks.
There is a separate waiting area for children available.

Patients and visitors are reminded that Hinchingbrooke is a Smoke-Free site and that smoking is prohibited within the hospital grounds.
