Welcome to the Maternity Unit

The Maternity Unit at Hinchingbrooke NHS Trust was opened in 1983 but has just undergone a full state of the art refurbishment.

On the Labour Ward there are 7 delivery rooms all have ensuite facilities and one has access to the birthing pool. We have an obstetric theatre and a high risk delivery room, and a two bedded observation bay.

For more information see: Labour ward

Primrose Suite (Midwifery Led Birthing Unit)

On the Primrose Suite (Midwifery Led Birthing Unit) there are two low risk rooms furnished with Bradbury Mattresses and offering a home from home environment, one of the rooms has its own bath while the other has an ensuite shower room with access to the birthing pool. It offers a fully comprehensive maternity service, care is either midwifery led, consultant led or shared led care.  The unit delivers approximately 2,700 babies per year.

Lilac Ward is a mixed antenatal and postnatal ward, it has 28 beds which is made up of 5 bays each contained 5 beds. Each bay has its own en suite facilities which include wet room. There are three single rooms with en suite toilet facilities; these rooms are used for women with a medical need or are available as amenity rooms at the cost of £157 per 24 hour period. These cannot be booked in advance as medical needs take priority.
