The Early Pregnancy Assessment unit ( EPAU ) acknowledges that some women need the reassurance of a scan , even if there may be no medical indication for this.
The EPAU offers reassurance scans up to the 12 week of pregnancy and checks that the heart is beating and that the pregnancy is in the right place.
This is offered on a Private basis at the cost of £102. This is not paid at the time of the scan but an invoice will follow 6-8 weeks after.
Women choosing this option should be advised that any abnormalities cannot be detected by this type of scan at this stage of pregnancy and they still need to attend their routine Early Dating Scan.
