Welcome

The Eye Unit at Hinchingbrooke Hospital provides eye care to the residents of Huntingdon and the surrounding areas. The unit is modern and extremely well equipped and offers care in all areas of eye health and disease. Consultants from Hinchingbrooke Hospital also run eye clinics in Doddington County Hospital and The Princess of Wales Hospital, Ely. Many of our eye consultants also work in Addenbrooke's Hospital and in the Moorfields Eye Unit at Bedford Hospital.

The work done in the unit

In the past year we saw over 20,000 patients in the clinic and performed over 2,500 eye operations and over 300 laser procedures. Most surgery is done as day case without requiring an overnight hospital stay. We achieve current national targets for seeing new outpatients within 5 weeks and operating within 13 weeks from referral.

Community and hospital care

The staff in the eye unit work closely with specially trained community optometrists and orthoptists so that patients can be cared for outside of the hospital and closer to home where possible.
