The Pharmacy provides a range of services including:
- In-patient, out-patient and take home dispensing, including dispensing for discharge
- Ward-based pharmacy service including technician-led medicines administration
- Patients own drugs scheme involving use of patients own medicines during their inpatient stay
- Self-medication scheme for inpatients with Parkinson’s Disease, developed by pharmacy staff working together with the Parkinson’s Disease Society
- Patient medication education and counselling
- Medicines information department, with a patient helpline for advice about medicines dispensed from the hospital
- Formulary development and implementation
- Procurement and supply of drugs through pharmacy stores, including use of electronic ordering and ward stock distribution
- Pharmacy robot installed for storage, ordering and dispensing of medication, controlled by the pharmacy computer system. Pharmacy staff dispense medication that is picked by the robot and sent down chutes in dispensary, reducing the risk of dispensing errors and saving staff time
- Aseptic services (sterile products) procurement including chemotherapy and intravenous nutrition
- Clinical trials support and management
- Paediatric specialist pharmacist and pharmacy support services to children’s wards
- Specialist pharmacist for antimicrobial/antibiotics and infection control
