1) Inflammatory polyarthritis:
Early undifferentiated inflammatory arthritis, Rheumatoid arthritis, Psoriatic arthritis, Anklosing Spondylitis, Enteropathic inflammatory arthritis
- We provide an early inflammatory arthritis service through the choose and book system with urgent appointments
- We provide a consultant led diagnostic service for all inflammatory polyarthritis
- We provide a full range of immunosuppressive (DMARD) treatments and NICE approved biologic treatments for patients with inflammatory joint disease.
- We provide a multidisciplinary service with physiotherapy and occupational therapy input
- We provide individualized educational input through our specialist rheumatology practitioner services
- We provide local joint injection and intramuscular depot steroid injections as part of our routine outpatient service (we do not require, as some other trusts do, a day case admission for joint injection services)
2) Vasculitis/connective tissue diseases:
SLE, Sjogren's syndrome, Dermato/polymyositis, Systemic sclerosis, Giant cell arteritis/PMR, ANCA associated vasculitis, Other autoinflammatory diseases
- We provide a consultant led diagnostic service for all connective tissue diseases and vasculitis
- We provide a full range of immunosuppressive treatments and, in exceptional cases, can provide biologic treatments to this group of patients.
- We provide a multidisciplinary service with physiotherapy and occupational therapy input
3) Inflammatory monoarthritis:
crystal arthritis (gout and pseudogout), septic arthritis, reactive arthritis, psoriatic arthritis
- We provide a consultant led diagnostic and treatment service for inflammatory monoarthritis
- We provide a full range of local aspiration and injection services for acute monoarthritis
- We provide a same day polarized light microscopy service to identify relevant synovial crystals, for patients in the outpatient setting.
- Facilities for polarized light microscopy are available within the outpatient clinic.
- We provide a full range of anti-inflammatory and immunosuppressive (DMARD) treatments as well as NICE approved biologic treatments for patients with inflammatory joint diseases.
- We do not provide an out of hours service for acute monoarthritis
4) Osteoarthritis:
We provide a consultant led diagnostic and treatment service for osteoarthritis, where there is diagnostic uncertainty, but do not provide on-going follow-up, except in exceptional cases.
- We provide a full range of local injection services, including suprascapular nerve blockade for shoulder arthropathy, as part of our routine outpatient service (we do not require, as some other trusts do, a day case admission for joint injection services)
5) Fibromyalgia:
We provide a consultant led diagnostic and treatment service for fibromyalgia but do not provide on-going follow-up, except in exceptional cases.
- Psychological input and pain management input requires onward referral to a specialist pain service.
6) Soft tissue/non-inflammatory musculoskeletal diseases
We provide a consultant led diagnostic and treatment service for soft tissue rheumatology and non-inflammatory musculoskeletal disease but do not provide on-going follow-up, except in exceptional cases.
- We provide a full range of local injection services, including suprascapular nerve blockade for rotator cuff arthropathy, as part of our routine outpatient service (we do not require, as some other trusts do, a day case admission for injection services)
