Specialist Palliative Care Team

We are a team of specialist doctors and nurses and an occupational therapist. The doctors and nurses have all undertaken specialist training to enable them to help people with advanced or progressive illnesses for example cancer, motor neurone disease, multiple sclerosis, heart failure and many others.

What is Palliative Care?

Palliative care is the active holistic care of patients with any progressive illness. Management of pain and other symptoms and provision of psychological, social and spiritual support is paramount. The goal of palliative care is achievement of the best quality of life for patients and their families at any time in their illness.

What do we offer?

The Palliative Care Team works closely with the doctors and nurses already looking after you, supporting and advising them on your care.  We can:

  • Provide specialist advice about managing any symptoms you have
  • Give you an opportunity to talk about any concerns or questions about your illness or its treatment
  • Provide emotional support for you and your family
  • Provide spiritual support for people of any or no faith
  • Help make sure that when are at home, you have the support and care you need
  • Help find other organisations to support you with any problems that the Palliative Care Team are not  qualified to help with
