Education, Learning and Development

The Trust is committed to ensuring that all it’s staff are equipped with the skills and knowledge to perform their roles effectively.
In order to achieve this commitment it requires all staff to participate in an annual personal development review (PDR).   This involves meeting with their immediate manager or reviewer and to have agreed objectives, a Knowledge & Skills Framework (KSF) outline for their post and a Personal Development Plan (PDP).

The Education Centre supports the training and development of all our staff and the delivery of postgraduate and undergraduate medical education and training.
We provide facilities and support for the training of all staff in the Trust, as well as arranging ongoing training for junior medical staff. This includes induction, education, appraisal and study leave arrangements.

In summary we will:

  • Ensure that staff are equipped with the necessary knowledge and skills to enable the Trust to deliver services as a patient led organisation
  • Focus on strengthening the organisation’s capacity and capability by ensuring effective and quantitative investment in learning and development
  • Be equally accessible to all staff regardless of race, gender,  sexual orientation, religion, age or disability
  • Be multi-disciplinary, where possible
  • Be linked to the Agenda for Change process and Knowledge & Skills Framework where appropriate.
  • Ensure that all staff will receive basic training and more specialised training where appropriate, meeting all statutory and legal requirements.
  • Support employee development and encourage staff to take an active responsibility in developing their own competence through use of the NHS Knowledge & Skills Framework tool, where appropriate, in the personal development and review process.
