The Trust's Preceptorship Programme supports the practitioner during the transition period from pre-registration student to a qualified nurse within a structured consistent framework that takes account of individual development needs. Preceptorship is one part of the development pathway for registered nurses and begins at induction.
The programme runs over five months and there are two programmes per year - in April and October. Development is supported by mentors in the clinical areas and self-directed learning - as part of the development pathway for registered nurses.
There is a course day held in the classroom once a month during the length of the course. This is practitioner led and facilitated by the Practice Development team. The course days consist of clinical, educational, leadership and management topics.
If you've not been nursing for some time and are at a point in your life when you want to return to the profession, our return to practice scheme, delivered in partnership with Anglia Ruskin University, gives you a structured programme to rebuild your competence and confidence.
The programme is funded by the Department of Health and is therefore free to all nurse returners. In addition, every student is eligible for a bursary of currently £1000 for the duration of the course. The academic aspects of the programme are delivered at the university. Clinical placements can be undertaken at Hinchingbrooke Hospital. You will attend the Trust Induction and be able to plan the practice hours you need to complete with the manager of the clinical area. During your placement at Hinchingbrooke Hospital you will be allocated a mentor in the clinical area to support and facilitate your learning needs. The Practice Educator at Hinchingbrooke will also meet with you during your placement to ensure that learning opportunities support your return to nursing practice.
The programme will last between three and six months dependent upon your needs. Whilst we cannot guarantee a substantive job at the end of a programme, there is likely to be a job that suits your experience and preferences. If you are interested please email sharon.waters@hinchingbrooke.nhs.uk or call our Nursing and Practice Development Team on 01480 416029.
Then give one of our lead nurses a ring - they'd love to hear from you
