Equality

We employ around 1,300 people with a wide variety of backgrounds and skills. Valuing diversity means valuing the differences between individuals and in recognising that everyone is different, valuing equally the unique contribution that individual experience, knowledge and skills can make.

'Equality of opportunity' stands as a cornerstone of our culture, where personal growth depends solely on individual ability and performance.

At Hinchingbrooke, we endeavour to discriminate only on ability, which is why we monitor our recruitment practices and our workforce to promote diversity across the organisation in order for our workforce to reflect our local community. In support of our views on diversity we have an a range of flexible working practices, such as opportunities to work part time, job share or indeed have an individually tailored working pattern.

We also have schemes to support the home commitments of our staff including our carers and special leave policy and employment break policy which allows staff to take extended leave. Ethnic Minorities We have a range of policies promote ethnic diversity throughout the organisation and it’s fair to say there’s already a reasonable range of ethnic backgrounds throughout our organisation. However, we aren’t resting on our laurels – our action plan to support race relations is actively monitored by our Improving Working Lives Group which is chaired by a Non-Executive Director.

Gender

Similar to other NHS organisations the majority of our employees are women.  What is refreshing about Hinchingbrooke is that women are strongly represented amongst our senior manager and director workforce.

Disability

Our aim is to make the hospital more comfortable for disabled people to attend as a patient or to work. Hinchingbrooke has already been awarded the Two Tick symbol (positive about disabled people) and reviews it’s commitments under this award annually. As part of our commitment to being positive about disabled people – we guarantee to offer an interview to any disabled applicant who meets the minimum criteria for the posts we advertise.  We will also ensure that we provide you with any special arrangements you may need to attend and perform at your best at interview.

And more ….

Our equal opportunities policy provides our staff with a framework which, in addition to the above, helps us to ensure that everyone who works in the Trust, or applies to work in the Trust, will be treated fairly and valued equally regardless of age, religion, beliefs, sexual orientation, domestic circumstances, social and employment status, HIV status, gender reassignment or political affiliation or trade union membership.
