Hinchingbrooke Health Care Trust values the support of our dedicated team of volunteers who provide practical support for our patients, staff and visitors. The Trust realises the wealth of knowledge, skills and experience volunteers bring to the hospital and recognise the value of engaging the wider community offering accessible and inclusive volunteering opportunities.
There are many reasons why people choose to become a volunteer at Hinchingbrooke which can include:

The one thing our volunteers have in common, is a desire to make a real difference
All volunteer applicants will need to submit an application form for a particular role, once the role closing date has passed your application will be shortlisted and if successful you will be invited to an informal interview.
The interview will normally be with the Volunteer Manager & Department/Ward Supervisor.
If you are successful at this stage and meet the criteria for the role you will receive an offer in writing and a recruitment pack which contains various forms for you to complete before moving onto the next stage of the process. Our volunteer office will then apply for your references.
As part of our commitment to safety volunteers need to complete a DBS check, Occupational Health Check prior to be invited to the full day volunteer induction which covers all you need to know about volunteering at the hospital.
Once this process is complete you will be invited to attend any relevant training linked to your role then offered a start date to begin your volunteering.
All volunteers can apply for a parking permit and are reimbursed actual travel expenses.
What HHCT look for from a volunteer:
- Volunteers must be aged 18 or over
- We ask that volunteers applying are able to make a reasonable commitment to volunteering
- We ask volunteers for a commitment of 3-4 hours per week
- We need our volunteers to be reliable and dependable
Hinchingbrooke Health Care NHS Trust’s Volunteering Policy clearly states that volunteers complement the work of our paid employees; and will not substitute paid employment.
HHCT are unable to offer volunteer roles on a short term agreement due to the investment of time and resources required to support volunteers through the recruitment process.
